The Leaf

The Leaf House is a renovation and extension to an existing heritage-listed house. Behind the side fence facing the street is a triangulated Corten steel roof that leans towards the existing dwelling. The form was designed by morphing the roof of the original dwelling and the roof of the existing studio. It is a leaf-like form that respectfully acknowledges the heritage dwelling, the existing studio, and the streetscape. The play of sunlight filtered by the trees connects the building to the landscape. The glazed roof floats like a leaf on a tree branch that joins the interior and the outside, capturing views of the sky and continually allowing the spaces to change with the play of shadows.

The Leaf House is a testament to sustainable living and inspires those who seek to live in harmony with nature. The new extension features a roof garden that provides a space for growing vegetables. The angled glass roof blurs the lines between the roof and walls, enhancing the visual connection with the garden at both levels. The landscape envelops the structure creating a deep connection to nature.
